August Ground School - 8/30/2011

RCCD will visit the Selfridge Air force Museum for the August ground school. Our own Darryll Rohrbeck (who does a lot of volunteer work there) will host us. We will have an opportunity to tour both the inside and outside exhibits. Be sure to take a look at the replica SPAD, which Darryll and Sam Blaga helped build.

Advanced registration is required for security clearance to enter the Selfridge base.: Either sign up at the regular Aug 18th club meeting, or if you can't make that meeting, contact Darryll and let him know you are attending. Guests are welcome, but also need to sign up in advance.

U-Control Fly-in; 2x2 Rally; 4-Stroke Rally

A Message (e-mail) from Frank Carlisle:
"Willie McMath sent me pictures from today's RCCD Fly In. I didn't think to bring my own camera so we have Willie to thank for shooting great pix and sharing them with all of us. Thankyou Willie. The r/c guys had a two X two rally wherein the plane had to have either two wings or two engines. On the c/l side we had our 12th annual fly in. Both groups had good turnouts and the club's womens auxiliary cooked up some food.
It was hot!! But the winds were calm and there was lots of pop, water and shade. It was fun
."

Thanks to CDs Phil and Joe T, for leading a good weekend and all the support from the rest of the club members. The weekend also included the 4-Stroke Rally on Sunday. Click on the pictures below for more images of the weekend:

Just a note of “Thanks” to all the club members and their family members, who attended the “Sticknic and BBQ” and made it a success. The attendance was great, in spite of the wind. After the postponement from the June 23rd date, due to rain, to June 28th, the weather somewhat cooperated. We certainly dodged the rain, but we found ourselves in 'the mist of wind'. The wind certainly curtailed the flying, but it didn't curtail our fun. We did have two brave souls, Chris Bonner and Kieth Jones, successfully testing their flying skills and the durability of the Ugly Sticks.

The list of names of everyone involved in the “Ugly Stick Club Project” and those who made the “Sticknic and BBQ” a success is a long one, so I will just generalize, and hopefully no one is missed.

Many Thanks to:

The Quad Squad, The Kitchen Staff, The Club Officers, The Builders of the Sticks, All The Club Members who brought their ugly stick type planes, All The Club Members directly and indirectly involved in the project, and All Our Family Members, and Those who couldn't attend but were there in spirit.

Thanks to Peter for passing this along - Bill passed in the Senate:

TEXT OF AMENDMENTS -- (Senate - February 15, 2011)

[Page: S759]

SA 86. Mr. INHOFE submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 223, to modernize the air traffic control system, improve the safety, reliability, and availability of transportation by air in the United States, provide modernization of the air traffic control system, reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows:

On page 245, between lines 7 and 8, insert the following:

(g) Special Rule for Model Aircraft.--

(1) IN GENERAL.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law relating to the incorporation of unmanned aircraft systems into FAA plans and policies,, including this section, the Administrator shall not promulgate any rules or regulations regarding model aircraft or aircraft being developed as model aircraft if such aircraft is--

New Year at RCCD

The day was soggy and high 40's, but the spirits were high. The flying started at 10 a.m. with Don Veres first with his electric P-51 and followed by Dave Durocher with his fuel powered Stick. The first non-flight was Pete Mlinarcik---his Ugly Stick was missing the needle valve?? Other pilots were also flying, when around 11:30 the wind and rain really kicked up forcing the aircraft to land. Henry Dudek brought in his Cub on floats and planted it firmly on terra firma. If others have photos, it would be appreciated to view.

The food was terrific(as usual) and brought in by Dave and Maria Biegas and Phil Laperriere. Sorry I'm not sure who else brought in some goodies, my apologies.

Enjoy these few photos (click on the picture to the right).
